Dog Grooming Tips
Grooming your dog or puppy can be difficult, if you are not properly prepared, but a necessary part of caring for your pet. You must do many things before you begin.
One of the first things that you should do to prepare for grooming your dog is to find an appropriate location. Small dogs can be bathed in the kitchen sink where there is the convenience of a sprayer or in the bathtub. Larger dogs should probably be bathed outside with the garden hose. Be sure to select a place that will not get muddy while the water is running.
Next, you should begin gathering your supplies. You will need some old towels to use for drying your puppy off when you are done with bath time. You will also need to get a doggie brush or comb, and some doggie shampoo. You should use shampoo that is made especially for dogs or puppies. Shampoo that is made for humans or dish soap is not recommended to use for bathing your dog because it may irritate your dog’s skin. You can purchase dog shampoo at your local pet store or many retail outlets.
Now it is time to start bathing your dog! If you have a larger dog, you should probably put him on a leash to keep him from trying to run off while you are bathing him.
Thoroughly wet your dog’s fur with water. If you are using a sink, make sure not to get the water too hot. Grab your dog shampoo and start bathing. You should start bathing at his or her head, taking special care not to get any soap into his eyes. Continue working your way down your dogs back until you get to the tail. Be sure to pay special attention to those hard to reach areas like between his toes and his stomach. Whenever you are rinsing your dog be sure that you rinse all of the soap out of his or her fur to keep from irritating your dog’s skin. The most effective way to do this is to rinse the shampoo out starting from your dogs head and working your way toward his tail. This helps to keep the soap from running to areas you have already rinsed. Always pay special attention and make sure to rinse your dog’s feet and legs well because this is where all the soap will run while you are rinsing his body.
Dry your dog off and brush his fur to remove any knots and your done! You may choose to put in a few bows or tie on a bandana if you wish. Grooming your dog is an important part of raising and caring for a happy and healthy dog.
Vets like human doctors will have a specialty. Whether in dogs, cats, reptiles, small mammels... You'll obviously want a vet that operates on your pet type.
Many problems in pets can be overted by proper nutrition, exercise and attention. Don't buy cheap pet food, litter and toys as they can cause problems down the road. The little bit more you spend now on quality resources for your pet will save thousands down the road then they start to age.
If you're unsure of what to buy you can search online communities and reviews for what kind of food and treats to buy to optimize their health and happiness. One tip is to never feed your pet human food. Human food is full of fat, sugar and processed chemicals that are not good for them. Quality canned meats and freah meat is ok in certain circumstances. Veterinarians can help you decide what is best too!
