Preparing for a New Dog or Puppy

Bringing a new dog or puppy into your home is a big decision whether you have chosen a pure breed or a a mixed breed puppy you must consider the care that your new family member will require.

First you must choose the food that you will feed your new friend. You will need to find the kind that is suitable for your dog. Puppies will need to be on puppy food for at least the first year of their lives because it will provide tha appropriate amounts of protine and calcium needed for adequate groth and nutrition at this stage in their lives. Many puppy foods have begun adding the DHA and ARA supplements found in mothers milk for optimal nutrition. Your puppy should be provided vwith fresh food and water at all times.

If you have decided to have an adult dog it is best to feed them adult dog food. Be sure to purchase food that is specific for large or for small dogs, some of the foods ment for small dogs may be to big for a smaller dog to fit into their mouth. Adult dogs should be offered either one large meal or two smaller meals a day. It is not nessary to leave food down all day for an adult dog, but they should always have fresh water.

In addition to food , your new dog oor puppy will also need chew toys.that is if you prefer for them not touse your favorite pair of shoes or the couch! Try to purchase a variety of toys such as tennis balls, soft squeeky toys , and chewy bones as you will not yet know what your dog likes and the variety may prevent him or her from loosing interest and using things that are not intended for chewing.

You shouls also purchase a well fitting collar and some tags for your dog be sure to place your dogs name , address, and a phone number where you can be contacted just in case he or she may decide to wander off and somebody wants to return your puppy.

Be sure to give your dog or puppy lots of love and attention remember that dogs reqire just as much attention as a small child would. Try to devote as much time as possible playing fetch, tug o war ,going for walks, teaching them tricks and petting your dog or puppyif yomust leave your dog or puppy try to be gone for a short amount of time.if you if you must be away from your pet for several hours a day, arrange for a friend or neighbor to check on him once or twice a day..

Vets like human doctors will have a specialty. Whether in dogs, cats, reptiles, small mammels... You'll obviously want a vet that operates on your pet type.

Many problems in pets can be overted by proper nutrition, exercise and attention. Don't buy cheap pet food, litter and toys as they can cause problems down the road. The little bit more you spend now on quality resources for your pet will save thousands down the road then they start to age.

If you're unsure of what to buy you can search online communities and reviews for what kind of food and treats to buy to optimize their health and happiness. One tip is to never feed your pet human food. Human food is full of fat, sugar and processed chemicals that are not good for them. Quality canned meats and freah meat is ok in certain circumstances. Veterinarians can help you decide what is best too!
